We are very excited to announce that we now offer ProStride PRP (platelet-rich plasma) treatment as a steroid-free alternative to traditional joint injections! What is ProStride?
ProStride uses the horse's own anti-inflammatory proteins to help heal joint inflammation and repair soft tissues.

How is this done?
We collect blood from the horse, process it into a concentrate of anti-inflammatory proteins and inject them back into the horse's affected joints.  This whole process can be done ON FARM and we are so excited to be one of the only equine vets in the Columbus area to offer this latest and greatest sports medicine therapy for our clients and patients!

I want to let you know about the steps Windmiller Equine is taking during the COVID-19 outbreak. As a medical professional service, we are monitoring updates and following all state and federal recommendations while continuing to serve our clients and patients.

To protect the health of our staff and our clients, we are taking the following precautions:

1. We are abiding by all social distancing guidelines and require anyone present or in the vicinity of an exam to do the same.  In many cases you are not required to be present for an appointment.  If you prefer not to be present, please inform us in advance so that we may have appropriate staff available.

2. If you are feeling ill for any reason, we request that you not be present at your appointment.  Please advise us in advance of your appointment so that we may make arrangements to have appropriate staff available.  Depending on circumstances, it may be necessary to reschedule your appointment.

3. We will be using appropriate preventative measures during appointments and disinfecting ourselves and equipment before and/or between each appointment.

]]><![CDATA[Third Ohio Horse Dies as a Result of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE)]]>Wed, 02 Oct 2019 18:07:02 GMThttps://www.windmillerequine.com/blog/eastern-equine-encephalitis-eeeThe Ohio Department of Agriculture reports that a 3rd horse has recently died as a result of Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) infection. Eastern Equine Encephalitis is an infectious disease that affects the brain of horses. The disease is caused by a virus which attacks the brain, destroys nerve cells and causes brain inflammation and swelling.  

The onset of symptoms usually starts with a fever that can reach as high as 106 degrees for 1 to 2 days.  Additional symptoms may begin to develop one to three weeks later and can include lethargy, fever, muscle tremors, wobbliness (ataxia), and other neurologic symptoms.  

If your horse has not been vaccinated this year for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, we urge you to do so immediately.
